An individual of Russian nationality tragically lost their life in an incident involving a shark at the popular Red Sea resort of Hurghada in Egypt. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon while the man was swimming at Dream Beach in the city. Both Egyptian and Russian officials have confirmed that the man was attacked by a tiger shark.

An eyewitness captured the moment of the attack on video, which was subsequently shared with Reuters. The footage depicts the man, believed to be in his early 20s, struggling in the water before being pulled underwater by the shark. Despite the efforts of a lifeguard from a nearby hotel and the assistance of others who rushed to help, they were unable to reach the man in time.

As a precautionary measure, Egypt’s environment ministry has imposed a two-day ban on swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities in the area, starting from Friday. A specialized team has successfully captured the shark involved in the incident, and it is currently undergoing an examination to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The Russian Consul-General, Viktor Voropayev, has identified the victim as V Yu Popov and clarified that Popov had been residing in Egypt for a significant period and was not a tourist, as reported by the Tass news agency. The consulate has extended its condolences to Popov’s family and friends. They have also urged Russian citizens to exercise caution while in the water and comply with swimming and diving restrictions imposed by the Egyptian authorities.
