A young Nigerian beauty queen, Ada Eme, has emerged as a standout contestant at the esteemed 71st Miss World pageant in Mumbai, India. Hailing from Abia State and aged 25, she has clinched a coveted spot among the competition’s top 40 finalists, thanks to her impactful performance during the head-to-head challenge.
During this crucial phase, contestants addressed various global concerns, embodying the Miss World organization’s core principle of “beauty with a purpose.” Each participant had the opportunity to present their personal projects aimed at addressing issues such as environmental sustainability, healthcare, social justice, and education.
Eme’s project, named “Health for All,” focused on combating Schistosomiasis, a prevalent parasitic disease in tropical regions. Her impassioned speech resonated with the judges, earning her a spot in the top 40. Ada Eme was also honored with a $5,000 award from the Miss World organization’s chairwoman, Julia Morley.
Motivated by personal experiences, Eme revealed that beneficiaries of her scholarship program were forced to halt their studies due to the debilitating effects of Schistosomiasis. This inspired her to make a tangible impact in the fight against this preventable disease.
Her project aims to provide crucial immunizations and treatment to children in areas prone to the disease, empowering communities and safeguarding the health of their most vulnerable members.
With confidence and optimism, Eme looks forward to the grand finale scheduled for this Saturday at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, India.
This year’s Miss World pageant, which commenced on February 18th, features a diverse array of participants. Alongside Nigeria, several other African nations, including Angola, Botswana, and Cameroon, are competing for the prestigious title.
