According to Somalia’s state-run news agency, at least ten al-Shabab militants have been killed in a security operation in the central Hiiraan region.
It said three senior commanders of the Islamist group were among those killed in Tuesday’s engagement, and that the national intelligence agency and international partner forces were involved.
Al-Shabab has lost significant territory in recent months as a result of an offensive launched by Somalia’s military in collaboration with the African Union, US forces, and clan militia – but it continues to launch attacks in Mogadishu and neighboring countries.
