The English Premier League has confirmed its quartet of clubs set to compete in the 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League season. Initially, Tottenham Hotspur appeared poised to challenge Aston Villa’s top-four position, given their number of remaining fixtures earlier this month.
However, Tottenham’s setbacks in those fixtures, including a 2-0 loss to Manchester City on May 14, dashed their hopes of securing a top-four finish.
Consequently, Aston Villa secures their inaugural Champions League appearance, marking a historic milestone for the club.
Aston Villa’s coach, Unai Emery, expressed jubilation at achieving this long-held aspiration during the club’s end-of-season celebration. Emery stated, “It’s a very special day. It’s our dream, we started the season to be here. We’ve had injuries but the team was always focused. It’s fantastic. To play in the Champions League is the best.”
Joining Aston Villa in the Champions League campaign are Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool.
It’s worth noting that the Premier League could have had a fifth representative in the Champions League if English clubs had performed better in continental competitions this season.
