It is the latest in a string of violent incidents in Nigeria, where armed gangs kidnapped at least 80 children in Zamfara state. The West African regional bloc condemned the kidnapping and demanded the children’s release. In another development, a traditional ruler has been kidnapped in Kogi state’s central region after assailants killed a palace worker.

Last week, bandits killed more than 70 people in two separate attacks in the central state of Benue.

A similar attack on an internally displaced person camp last Friday killed dozens of people and injured many more.
