Malia Obama, the daughter of former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, has adopted a new surname as she embarks on her Hollywood career.
Transitioning into her role as a burgeoning filmmaker, Malia Obama has opted to use her middle name, Ann, professionally. This decision signifies the 25-year-old’s commitment to forging her own path in the entertainment industry. The unveiling of her new moniker coincided with the premiere of her short film, “The Heart,” at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
A graduate of Harvard University, Malia debuted her directorial talents with “The Heart,” a film exploring the profound bond between a mother and her son. The cast features accomplished actors such as Tunde Adebimpe, LaTonya Borsay, and John Weigand. Malia described the film as “a unique, almost fable-like narrative, following a man coping with the loss of his mother after she makes an unconventional request in her will.”
Before venturing into Hollywood, Malia gained valuable experience through internships at the HBO drama series “Girls” and at Harvey Weinstein’s production company. She also showcased her skills as a staff writer on Donald Glover’s acclaimed Amazon Prime series “Swarm.”
