Politics, it’s like a game where people compete to sit on a throne. For the first time in Ghana’s history, the two main dominant political parties, the NPP (New Patriotic Party) and the NDC (National Democratic Congress), will have their leaders battling it out. And guess what? Both leaders are from the northern side of Ghana .it all balls down to that tribal affiliations also play a role in politics.

Usually, it’s been a battle between the east and south, or East and North ,but now it’s the battle of the north. The NPP, led by the current vice president, Alhaj Dr. Mahmoud Bawumai , will go up against the former president , his excellency John Dramani Mahama. They both come from the northern side of the country , which has a significant population in the country. So, it’s a strategic move to attract votes from that region. Dr. Mahmoud Bawumai is a first-time contender for the presidency, while John Dramani Mahama is a seasoned politician.

On the other hand, Alhaji Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia was introduced to politics in the year 2008 when he became the running mate of the current president of Ghana. He made a significant impact and attracted many voters from the north, which helped the NPP gain support. On the other hand, in 2012, John Dramani Mahama was introduced as a running mate by the former president of Ghana, may he rest in peace, John Evans Atta Mills. He also made his debut in politics and had an impact in the northern region.

However, the arrival of Dr. Mahmood Bawumia brought about a significant change in the entire northern region, even taking some seats from the NDC .when it comes to the 2024 election, it’s a fascinating display of the power of influence, courage, and the ability to rally people behind you. It’s a question of who possesses these qualities to a greater extent and who can garner more support. It’s a competition to see who will emerge victorious and who will have the upper hand. It’s definitely an intriguing and pivotal moment in politics.
