During a recent press conference, US President Joe Biden inadvertently referred to Egypt’s President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi as “the president of Mexico,” sparking amusement among some Egyptians.

President Biden’s slip of the tongue occurred while discussing the conflict between Israel and Gaza and referencing President al-Sisi’s initial reluctance to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Amused Egyptians took to social media to highlight the mix-up, noting that President al-Sisi has been nicknamed “El Meksiki” (“The Mexican” in Arabic) as a way to freely criticize him without facing censorship.

The mix-up, though humorous, has raised concerns in the US regarding President Biden’s health and cognitive abilities. However, the president has reiterated his mental fitness for office amidst the incident.
