The Nigerian Police Force has issued a wanted notice for Andrew Wynne, a British national also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey. Wynne is accused of masterminding a scheme to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.
The announcement was made on Monday by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. According to Adejobi, Wynne allegedly used a front operation—renting space at Labour House in Abuja under the name ‘Iva Valley Bookshop’ and setting up ‘STARS of Nations Schools’—to mask his alleged subversive activities.
Wynne is suspected of playing a key role in planning and financing recent protests aimed at destabilizing the country and effecting an unconstitutional regime change.
“The Nigeria Police Force has launched a thorough investigation into the activities of foreign nationals and other subversive elements attempting to undermine Nigeria’s democratically elected government,” Adejobi stated.
The investigation has led to the arrest of nine individuals who allegedly received significant financial support from foreign sources to destabilize Nigeria. Evidence and confessions have reportedly linked Wynne to the violent protests, with claims that he provided both operational and financial backing to those involved.
The police’s findings suggest that these activities were part of a broader conspiracy to incite violence and create chaos in an attempt to justify their plot against the government.
In related news, Polish nationals detained during the protests in Kano by the Department of State Services (DSS) have since been released. The police have also called in Comrade Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), for questioning about Wynne’s activities.
