President Bola Tinubu arrived at the National Assembly complex in Abuja for a special joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives. However, contrary to earlier expectations, he did not address the lawmakers about the state of the country’s democracy.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, confirmed this change on Wednesday, May 29. He explained that the alteration was due to an error on the part of the National Assembly.

Speaker Abbas clarified that President Tinubu’s visit was to mark the signing and official commencement of a new national anthem, following the bill that reinstated the old anthem.

Addressing the senators and House members, Speaker Abbas announced that all planned addresses have been rescheduled for June 12, which is Democracy Day. President Tinubu advised that the events commemorating 25 years of uninterrupted democracy be postponed to that date.
