Google’s New Initiative: Empowering Nigerian Women and Youth with Digital Skills.
Google, the tech giant, has unveiled a significant initiative aimed at providing essential digital skills to 20,000 Nigerian women and young individuals. This endeavor aligns closely with the government’s aspiration of generating a million tech-related employment opportunities.
The renowned US-based company has also pledged a substantial donation of $1.6 million (£1.26 million) to bolster this effort.
The impetus for this announcement emerged from discussions between Olumide Balogun, Google’s director for West Africa, and Nigeria’s Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, held in the capital city, Abuja.
Welcoming this momentous step, Vice-President Shettima enthusiastically noted that the administration under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership is resolute in harnessing the immense potential of Nigeria’s youth, channeling their talents towards the expansion of the digital domain.
While the specific timeline for the implementation of these plans has yet to be outlined, the partnership holds promise for fostering significant progress in the digital landscape.
