According to Al-Jazeera, a shooter opened fire while the former prime minister was holding a rally in Wazirabad on Thursday, injuring Imran Khan’s knee with a bullet.

Khan was shot in the leg, according to Azhar Mashwani, a member of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, but he was not in danger. Mashwani said, however, that six additional people—including Faisal Javed Khan, another politician—were apparently hurt in the incident.

Khan was transported to a hospital in Lahore after leading a protest march to Islamabad’s capital and calling for immediate elections.

According to the article, neither the identity of the shooter, who was detained by police at the scene nor a group’s claim of responsibility for the attack has been made public.

In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif denounced the event and urged authorities to launch an investigation right away. Khan set off on his long march from Lahore on October 28 and planned to arrive in Islamabad on November 11.

A legislative vote of no confidence led to the overthrow of his government in April of this year. Khan has since organized protests across the nation to call for early elections.
