The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has announced plans to review the recent price hikes in MultiChoice cable subscriptions to ensure Nigerian subscribers receive value for their money. Adamu Abdullahi, the Acting CEO of FCCPC, shared this update exclusively during an interview on Channels Television’s Dateline Abuja program on Thursday.
During the interview, Abdullahi provided insights into the summons issued to the owner of a Chinese store in Abuja accused of discriminatory and sharp practices. He also addressed the compliance with the order given to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, indicating that sanctions are forthcoming for all confirmed violations identified by the agency.
MultiChoice, a prominent satellite television service provider in Sub-Saharan Africa headquartered in South Africa, recently announced increases in prices for DSTV and GOtv packages. The company cited rising operational costs as the reason for the price adjustments, which are set to take effect on May 1, 2024.
Under the new pricing structure, the Premium package on DSTV, previously priced at N29,500, will now cost N37,000, while the Compact Plus package, currently priced at N19,800, will see an increase to N25,000.
