A fire broke out yesterday at the timber market on Kenyatta Street in Uwani, Enugu State, engulfing five shops in flames. Thanks to the quick response from the State Fire Service, the blaze was contained and prevented from spreading further.
According to Naija News, the fire started around 9:45 pm, and an emergency call was promptly made to the fire department. An anonymous firefighter mentioned that their swift action helped minimize the damage. “Only about five shops were affected by the fire in this big market. I cannot say much on this incident as I am not the Chief Fire Officer,” he said.
An eyewitness named Joe shared his experience, noting that the fire erupted shortly after a nationwide industrial strike by labor unions ended. He observed that nearby residents rushed to the market, and the fire service arrived soon after to put out the flames. “I thank God and the fire service for the quick response, otherwise, it would have been disastrous,” Joe remarked.
The rapid intervention of the fire department undoubtedly saved a significant portion of the plywood market from potential devastation.
