Ghana emerged as the star of the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) recent International Excellence Awards for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). In a ceremony held last Tuesday in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Ghanaian students swept all three top awards.

The remarkable achievers hail from St. James Seminary Senior High School, further cementing the institution’s reputation for academic excellence. With a total of 2,327,342 students from the five WAEC member countries participating in the 2023 WASSCE, Ghana’s feat stands out even more impressively.

The ceremony was a moment of national pride, with Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), extending his heartfelt congratulations to the winners. He noted Ghana’s consistent success in the competition, highlighting that the country secured two out of the top three spots last year and completed a clean sweep this year.
