Public hospital workers in the Central African Republic have declared that they will continue to strike until their demands for better working conditions, unpaid Covid-19 bonuses, and the integration of temporary workers are met.
“We’ve been on strike since Wednesday, and nothing has been achieved,” says Sandrine Biani, president of the Independent Health Workers’ Union.
According to the French news site RFI, a minimum service level is in place, but the strikes are having a significant impact on the care patients receive.
According to Health Minister Pierre Somsé, the Central African Republic is “making every effort” to improve the working conditions of health professionals. He has urged doctors to “trust the government” and the public to remain confident in the healthcare system.
