Deputy Controller Michael Anugwa Denies Suspension Amid Investigations
Michael Anugwa, the Deputy Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and head of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kirikiri, Lagos, has dismissed rumors of his suspension from duty. His remarks came during a session with the House of Representatives joint committee investigating allegations of bribery involving the NCoS and the anti-graft agency.
Anugwa’s statements were made in response to a previous announcement by Ja’afaru Ahmed, secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB). Ahmed had claimed that both Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, another deputy controller at the MSCC, had been suspended. Anugwa countered this assertion, stating, “It was a social media report. I wasn’t served a letter,” emphasizing that he has not received any official notice regarding his suspension.
The committee’s investigation primarily centers on the conditions surrounding the detention and alleged preferential treatment of Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, a prominent figure in the crossdressing community, during his stay at the MSCC.
In a related update, Bobrisky’s lawyer, Avwerosuoghene Omuvwie, addressed concerns regarding his client’s absence from the House of Representatives. He cited health issues as the reason for Bobrisky’s failure to appear in person.
