Social media personality, Martins Ortse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has voiced his thoughts on the apology made by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), regarding past teachings on tithing.
Pastor Adeboye recently expressed regret over his earlier statements suggesting that paying tithes was essential for Christians to enter heaven. This apology sparked reactions across the country, with VeryDarkMan being one of the loudest voices in the conversation.
In a post on his Instagram, VeryDarkMan expressed relief over Adeboye’s admission but questioned the validity of other teachings spread by religious leaders in Nigeria and Africa. He remarked, “I’m happy about what Papa Adeboye revealed, but I’m now waiting for pastors like David Ibieyomie who also preach about the necessity of tithes.”
He continued, “The leading figure in Nigerian religion has apologized for something that isn’t in the Bible. So what other things have they told us that aren’t true? That’s what worries me—how many more teachings have been manipulated?”
VeryDarkMan’s comments also extended to the larger impact of religious manipulation in African society. “Religion has blinded us in Africa, and I will continue to speak about how much damage it’s done. I hope the tithe money collected can be used to create opportunities and improve lives.”
