Kenyan lawmakers have approved a proposal to amend a defense treaty with the United Kingdom in response to allegations that troops training there committed serious crimes, including murder.

The Kenyan parliament’s Defence Committee proposed the changes in response to the failure to obtain justice for the murder of a 21-year-old woman in 2012.

Agnes Wanjiru’s body was discovered after she had been with British soldiers.

A British soldier cannot be tried for murder under Kenyan law under the current bilateral agreement.
