A SpaceX rocket carried Kenya’s first earth observation satellite into orbit.

Elon Musk’s company confirmed the Taifa-1 satellite’s separation about an hour after it took off from California.

It was created by a group of Kenyan researchers with the assistance of a Bulgarian aerospace company.

The goal is to collect data that will aid in crop yield prediction in Kenya and improve food security.

Kenya’s satellite was one of several launched from the SpaceX Falcon-9 as part of the company’s rideshare program.
