The Ikeja High Court in Lagos State has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to detain former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Godwin Emefiele until the next hearing on Thursday, April 11.

Justice Rahman Oshodi also ordered the remand of Emefiele’s co-defendant, Henry Omoile, at Ikoyi Prison until the court’s ruling on his bail on Thursday.

The decision came after the court heard the bail applications from their counsel, AbdulHakeem Labi-Lawal.

Emefiele’s counsel requested bail on self-recognizance pending the case’s hearing or on generous terms, while also seeking favorable bail terms for the second defendant.

The EFCC’s counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Rotimi Oyedepo, did not object to the bail request but urged the court to exercise its discretion in granting bail.
