Meta has officially acquired the domain Threads.com, with updates in the Whois database confirming the transfer on September 24. This move was first noted by users in various domain-related forums, indicating that Meta’s Instagram is now listed as the site’s new registrant.

Initially, Meta launched its Threads social media platform using the Threads.net domain, as Threads.com was owned by a startup offering an alternative to Slack. Following the launch, the startup reportedly received interest from multiple companies looking to purchase the domain.

In June, Shopify stepped in and acquired Threads.com for an undisclosed amount. At that time, the startup mentioned that while it had turned down previous offers, it opted to sell due to changing circumstances and the desire to become part of a larger organization.

The domain gained significant attention following the launch of Meta’s Threads, leading many to speculate that the company would eventually pursue its acquisition.

Launched as a direct competitor to Twitter, now known as X, Threads has amassed over 200 million users since its debut. The acquisition of Threads.com could signify an exciting new chapter for Meta’s vision for the platform. While the domain is not yet active, it’s anticipated that it will soon be integrated into Meta’s operations, potentially giving Threads a fresh boost in its competitive landscape.
