Mozambique’s military has reclaimed control of a lake in the northern Cabo Delgado region from militant Islamists, according to President Filipe Nyusi.
He praised the young soldiers fighting the insurgents.
“They have had successes and casualties over the last week, recovering Lake Inguri, which the jihadists used for fishing.” “The young people are there, even if some have died in battle,” Mr. Nyusi said at a Matola, an industrial town meeting.
Since militant Islamists launched an insurgency in Cabo Delgado in 2017, more than 4,000 people have been killed and 800,000 have been displaced.
