One person was shot dead in Kisumu, Kenya’s western city, as demonstrators gathered to protest the high cost of living.
Protesters and police officers have also clashed in Nairobi’s informal settlements.
The government has sent security forces to quell the protests called by opposition leader Raila Odinga, but this has only heightened tensions.
The protests have been declared illegal by the Interior Ministry and the Inspector of Police.
President William Ruto is currently in Belgium and Germany on official business.
