The Parliament has given the green light to a $150 million loan from the World Bank to support the ongoing Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project, which aims to tackle flooding challenges in the capital city.

Despite objections from the minority caucus, the loan was ultimately endorsed. Concerns were raised by the minority regarding the handling of a previous $200 million loan earmarked for the GARID project by the government, leading to their reluctance in backing the new loan.

Emmanuel Bedzrah, a member of the Works and Housing Committee, expressed reservations, stating, “If the entire Odaw river has not been cleared for two years despite the allocation of $200 million, I fail to see the necessity for an additional $150 million.”

However, after a headcount vote favored the majority caucus, the House gave its approval for the loan facility.
