The body of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, is scheduled to arrive in Abuja from Lagos on Thursday. On arrival, a guard of honor will be held, as his body is respectfully led down the red carpet, observed by senior military officials, before it is placed in an ambulance and taken to its resting place.
The burial is set for Friday at the national military cemetery in Abuja.
Lieutenant General Lagbaja’s passing was announced last week by President Bola Tinubu, who shared that the COAS had passed in Lagos after a period of illness. Born on February 28, 1968, Lagbaja served as Chief of Army Staff for one year and four months, having been appointed by President Tinubu in June 2023.
Throughout his career, he played crucial roles in internal security operations such as Operation ZAKI in Benue, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Udoka in the Southeast, and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger.
His loss marks the second time in three years that a Chief of Army Staff has passed while in office, following the untimely death of Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru in 2021.
Before his body was moved to Abuja, it first arrived in Lagos. See photos from Lagos below:
