Here is some of what we know or can anticipate for next week, though not all the specifics have been made public yet.

When and where is the funeral?

On September 19 at 11:00 BST, Westminster Abbey will host the state burial for the Queen. The Queen married Prince Philip at the abbey, which serves as the traditional church where monarchs of Great Britain are crowned.

What’s a state funeral?

A state funeral is usually held for a king or queen and adheres to strict protocol. This includes a military procession of the coffin and a time of lying in state, which is what is currently taking place and allowing members of the public to view the coffin and offer their condolences. On January 30, 1965, Sir Winston Churchill had the final state funeral.

Who will be there?

There are around 2,200 seats available for the ceremony at Westminster Abbey. International heads of state will fly in to join members of the Royal Family in remembering the Queen’s life and service. There are also likely to be prominent UK lawmakers, previous prime ministers, and European royal family members. Find out who is and is not invited in this section.
