Zambian police have surrounded and demanded access to ex-President Edgar Lungu’s home in the capital, Lusaka.

According to Mr. Lungu’s lawyer, Jonas Zimba, police officers are conducting a search related to the ownership of three motor vehicles and a title deed.

He stated that the search is in response to a complaint filed against the former first lady, Esther Lungu, regarding her suspicious ownership of the three motor vehicles.

The police have yet to issue a statement about the development.

The Patriotic Front (PF), the former ruling party, has described the deployment as a violation of Mr Lungu’s legal immunity.

Mr. Lungu was defeated in the August 2021 election by Hakainde Hichilema.
