Professor Peter Twumasi has been relieved of his duties as the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
Prof. Twumasi took on the role of NSA boss in 2019, succeeding Robert Sarfo Mensah, and has held the position for the past five years.
However, his tenure has been marred by several controversies, notably the inadequate maintenance of sporting facilities.
Dodzie Numekevor has been named as Prof. Twumasi’s successor, with his appointment authorized by Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, on February 26, 2024.

Last year, Prof. Twumasi faced scrutiny when the NSA shut down the Accra Sports Stadium for football matches in December, opting to rent it out for Christmas concerts instead. This decision forced Ghana Premier League clubs like Hearts of Oak, Accra Great Olympics, Accra Lions, and Dreams FC to seek alternative venues for their home games.
During his appearance before the Public Account Committee in February, Prof. Twumasi was questioned about the dismal state of the pitches following the concerts. He defended the decision to rent out the Accra Sports Stadium, stating that it was not uncommon for such facilities to be used for social events.
Numekevor’s confirmation as the new NSA boss awaits his acceptance of the appointment.
