President Cyril Ramaphosa should resign, according to South Africa’s tourism minister, in accordance with the ruling party’s policy on members involved in corruption issues. “Farmgate” is the name of the corruption scandal in which President Ramaphosa is involved. It concerns a robbery that allegedly occurred at his personal farm, Phala Phala, back in February 2020.
Any misconduct is refuted by the president. Lindiwe Sisulu stated her intention to include the scandal on the agenda of the ANC conference in December in an interview that was broadcast on Sunday night by the national broadcaster SABC.
She claimed that a conversation regarding the future of President Ramaphosa and the application of the step-aside provision was necessary.
I would propose as we go into the next conference [that]anybody who we feel has serious allegations against them should step aside. For instance, the Phala Phala issue for me would call for that until all of us are quite certain that there is nothing wrong, nothing illegal about that.”
In preparation for selecting its presidential candidate for the 2024 election, the ANC is paying more attention to Mr. Ramaphosa.
