The M23 rebel group has taken control of more territory in the conflict-torn eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Over the weekend, the rebels took Mushaki and Rubaya, and residents fled to avoid the fighting.
The Congolese army has not commented on the fall of Rubaya, a mining town about 50 kilometers (31 miles) west of Goma, the regional capital.
Coltan, manganese, tantalum, and other minerals are abundant in the town.
According to new timelines adopted by East African defense chiefs, the M23 rebels were set to begin withdrawing from some territories they recently seized on Tuesday.
In the last six months, the ongoing conflict has displaced hundreds of thousands of people.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has accused Rwanda of supporting the M23 group, which Kigali denies.
