According to state-owned news agency AIB, Russia intends to collaborate with Burkina Faso to develop counter-terrorism strategies.

This was revealed during a meeting between Burkinabe Prime Minister Apollinaire Kyelem de Tembela and Alex Saltynov, the Russian ambassador accredited to Burkina Faso.

“We will create a strategy for bilateral cooperation. And from there, we’ll see what Russia can bring to Burkina Faso in terms of security and counter-terrorism “The Russian ambassador was quoted as saying.

Burkina Faso appears to be gradually embracing Russia under the influence of neighboring Mali, where diplomatic relations with France were severed last year over the deployment of Wagner Group mercenaries.

The interim prime minister’s visit to Russia in December sparked speculation about the presence of Russian mercenaries in the country.
