A report that the army has been running a secret, mass abortion program for the past decade has been dismissed as nonsense by Nigeria’s top general. Lucky Irabor, the Chief of the Defence Staff, stated that he would not waste his time investigating something that was not true.
According to Reuters, at least 10,000 abortions have been performed, with many of them involving women who had been raped by Islamist militants.
According to the women interviewed by Reuters, the terminations were carried out without their consent. The US government called the report “harrowing” and said it was looking for more information.
