Tony Elumelu, the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), made it clear on Friday that he has no ambitions to become Nigeria’s President. Speaking at the unveiling of the beneficiaries of the Entrepreneurship Programme in Lagos, Elumelu emphasized that not everyone can lead the country.
As the Chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), Elumelu expressed pride in the accomplishments of the foundation over the past decade. He highlighted the foundation’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurship by providing each of the 1,104 young men and women from 54 African countries with a non-refundable $5,000 seed capital.
“We believe in spreading luck, democratizing prosperity, and empowering our youth to start their own businesses,” Elumelu stated. He emphasized the foundation’s impact, noting that over 20,000 young Africans have received over $100 million in support, with partnerships extending globally.
Elumelu reflected on the significance of the day, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to make a positive impact. He emphasized that their efforts stem not from wealth but from the realization that poverty anywhere threatens prosperity everywhere. He expressed joy in contributing to the prosperity of not only Nigeria but all 54 African countries, ensuring a brighter future for the next generation.
