Yoweri Museveni, the president of Uganda, has said that he intends to invite Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, to discuss ways to end the bloodshed in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In a meeting with the departing French ambassador on Monday night, President Museveni said, “I’m going to write to [Mr] Macron and invite him here to address African and global concerns, including Europe.
“I would really like to sit down with Mr. Macron and we can talk strategy since Europe has nothing to lose by working well with Africa,” he continued.

Large portions of the eastern part of DR Congo are seeing rebel activity. The M23, one of the main armed organizations there, recently defeated the army to take control of a crucial border town and the surrounding territory in North Kivu province.
On the fringes of the UN General Assembly in New York last month, President Macron had meetings with the presidents of Rwanda and DR Congo.
