Explosions Rock Dangote Refinery in Lagos
On Wednesday, explosions were heard after a fire erupted at the Dangote Group refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State. The cause of the blaze remains unknown at the time of this report.
Workers at the refinery were seen evacuating the affected area, with one worker shouting, “Gas Plenty.” Fire service teams have arrived at the scene to tackle the fire.

In response to the incident, Anthony Chiejina, Dangote Group’s Chief Branding and Communication Officer, reassured the public, stating that the fire at the effluent treatment plant was quickly contained. “There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating and there is no recorded injury or body harm to any of our staff on duty,” Chiejina said.
The Dangote refinery is a massive 650,000 barrels-per-day facility that produces fertilizer, diesel, and Jet A1. Production of petrol is set to commence next month, according to Dangote Industries Limited (DIL).
