Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, who’s been nominated as the Health Minister, is urging healthcare facilities to have backup power sources, like generators, due to recent power disruptions.

He’s highlighting the impact of intermittent power cuts on healthcare services and is emphasizing the importance of ensuring uninterrupted patient care.

During a press briefing held at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Okoe-Boye discussed concerns about the neglect of the health sector and stressed the need for constructive dialogue.

He emphasized that hospitals, being essential parts of the nation, are affected by broader challenges.

Dr. Okoe-Boye emphasized the need for hospitals to be prepared, advocating for reliable backup power sources such as generator sets to maintain patient care during power outages.

He pointed out, “There’s been a lot of emotional reactions triggered by short videos showing power outages. However, it’s essential to understand that if the country faces power issues, hospitals are not exempt. They face the same challenges.”

Dr. Okoe-Boye highlighted that while many hospitals have standby power plants, issues such as maintenance or fuel supply can hinder their functionality. He urged focusing on the essentials and conducting audits to address gaps in power supply infrastructure.

The recent power outages have disrupted various sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, IT, and services, leading to delays and revenue loss.
