Nollywood mourns the loss of Amaechi Mounachi, popularly known as Muonagor, who recently passed away after battling kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke. His demise comes shortly after a heartfelt plea for financial assistance to undergo a kidney transplant in India.

The sad news broke on the evening of Sunday, March 24, 2024, sending shockwaves across the internet. Just a week prior, a poignant video circulated online, showing the 61-year-old actor bedridden and in need of financial support for his medical treatment.

In the video, Muonagor’s fellow actor, Kingsley Orji, sat beside him, advocating for help as the kidney disease had impaired Muonagor’s speech. Due to financial constraints, Muonagor had to return home from the hospital, despite his deteriorating health.

Orji disclosed that Muonagor had been battling diabetes and stroke, which left him paralyzed in one leg, compounding his health struggles.

Last November, Muonagor’s cousin, Hon Tony Muonagor, took to social media to shed light on the actor’s health condition. He shared a poignant picture of himself by Muonagor’s bedside, revealing the extent of his ailments, including kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke. Despite managing his diabetes and undergoing regular dialysis, Muonagor’s health continued to decline.

The passing of Muonagor adds to the recent losses suffered by the Nollywood community. Just earlier this month, the industry mourned the loss of John ‘Mr. Ibu’ Okafor, who succumbed to illness leading to the amputation of his leg on March 2.
