Earlier today, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia engaged in a private discussion with Pope Francis in Rome.
As stated by the Holy See Press Office, the Pontiff met with the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the “auletta,” a small study within the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall. Subsequently, Dr. Bawumia held talks with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.
The Holy See Press Office highlighted the positive relationship between the Holy See and Ghana during the meeting, focusing on various aspects of Ghana’s political and socio-economic landscape. The discussions emphasized the ongoing collaboration between the two entities, particularly in vital sectors like education and healthcare.

In a statement, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to address numerous national and global issues with Pope Francis, further strengthening Ghana’s enduring bond with the Vatican State and the Pope.
He also mentioned meeting with H.E. Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, and Ghana’s own Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson, who graciously provided a tour of the Vatican.
This meeting between Pope Francis and Vice President Bawumia signifies the continued dialogue and partnership between the Holy See and Ghana.
