Yvonne Nelson, a Ghanaian actress, has recounted how, nearly thirteen years after being banned by the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), almost all of her colleagues failed to support her.
She told George Quaye on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z on Saturday that it was only Majid Michel who stood by her during those difficult times.
Yvonne claims that after being banned, she came up with the idea of producing her own films. However, some of the actors who did not support her in the FIPAG ban said it was a bad idea because it would prevent her from being cast in films by other producers.
“I just wanted to do something on my own, and I remember talking to a couple of my colleagues (my close friends at the time), and they all said ‘no, it’s a bad idea, Yvonne. Because no producer will call you to be in their movies if you become a producer, so don’t do it,” she explained.
“And they were all against me during the ban oo. Majid was the only one there. Majid was the one who would accompany me when we went here to beg small. So it was just Majid at the time, and we weren’t even close,” Yvonne explained.
The Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) banned the actress and film producer for a year in 2010.
She was barred for allegedly showing disrespect to her fellow actors, producers, and crew members on multiple occasions.
On February 14, 2023, the award-winning actress will premiere her new film, ‘Kotoka,’ at Accra’s Silverbird Cinema.
Yvonne Nelson, Majid Michel, Franklin Adjetey, Kweku Elliot, Darlyn Adu-Gyamfi, and Christy Ukaka star in the film.
