Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed frustration over the slow progress of the reconstruction work at Okrika Grammar School in Okrika Local Government Area. During a site visit, the governor questioned why he was previously informed by the Education Commissioner that 70% of the project had been completed, despite seeing a much lower level of work on the ground.
Governor Fubara, visibly displeased, shared his concerns in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi. He emphasized that he would immediately meet with the contractors to address the situation and ensure they adhere to the agreed-upon project specifications and timelines.
“I’ve been getting updates from the Commissioner for Education, and I felt it was important to visit since Okrika is my constituency,” he said. “My honest assessment? I’m not satisfied. I was told 70% of the work is done, but from what I’m seeing, it’s nowhere close. I’m taking over the supervision to ensure we deliver a quality grammar school for my people.”
The governor reiterated the importance of the project, which is focused on revamping one of the state’s once-prestigious secondary schools, ensuring that the reconstruction meets high standards and is completed on time.
