A Singapore Airlines flight encountered terrifying turbulence over Myanmar, leaving one elderly passenger dead and over 100 injured, with 20 in intensive care in Bangkok hospitals. The incident occurred 10 hours into the flight from London to Singapore, causing the plane to abruptly rise and plunge multiple times.

Witnesses described chaos inside the cabin, with passengers tossed violently, leaving dents in the ceiling and causing head injuries. The plane, carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew, made an emergency landing at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, where medical teams rushed to assist the injured.

Survivors recounted their harrowing experiences, with one passenger describing how they were flung to the roof of the cabin before crashing to the floor amidst flying breakfast items and glass. Tragically, a 73-year-old British man lost his life, and many others suffered injuries.

Relief efforts are underway, with hospitals in Bangkok treating the injured from various countries. A relief flight transported survivors to Singapore, where they were greeted by relieved relatives.

Passengers described the terrifying moments of the turbulence, with screams echoing through the cabin and fears of a crash looming. Singapore Airlines expressed deep regret for the traumatic ordeal and offered condolences to the deceased passenger’s family.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with authorities from Singapore and Thailand collaborating to determine the cause. Experts warn about the dangers of clear air turbulence, which is becoming more prevalent due to climate change.
