Peter Obi Tops Conversations Ahead of 2027 Elections — Peter Ameh Shares Insight

Former Inter-Party Advisory Council chairman, Peter Ameh, has weighed in on Nigeria’s evolving political climate, highlighting Peter Obi’s growing influence as a key contender in the build-up to the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Politics Today during a Thursday appearance on Channels Television, Ameh noted that Obi has become a central figure in political discussions across the country — especially in the North, where he believes the former governor is gaining serious attention.

“People are paying attention,” he said. “There’s hardly any conversation around possible 2027 candidates where Peter Obi’s name doesn’t come up first.”

Ameh went on to stress that as Nigeria looks ahead, the focus must shift beyond regional loyalties. Instead, he urged Nigerians to consider qualities like empathy, character, and discipline — especially when it comes to managing the nation’s resources.

“We need leaders who are intentional about using public funds in ways that truly impact lives,” he added. “It shouldn’t be about where someone comes from. It should be about their values and vision.”

Reflecting on the last election, Ameh pointed out that Obi garnered substantial support nationwide — not just in the South. “He had 44% in the South and over 15% in the North,” he explained, dismissing the notion that Obi’s influence is limited by geography.

He also drew a comparison with other candidates from the previous election, emphasizing that popularity and reach go beyond numbers — it’s about momentum, message, and the trust of the people.

As political debates heat up ahead of 2027, one thing is clear: Peter Obi isn’t just in the conversation — he’s shaping it.
