Celebrity manicures went viral, and the most in-demand manicurists became full-fledged influencers, making 2022 a big year for nail trends. So, what is in store for this year? These are the five nail trends that will dominate your Instagram feed in 2023, ranging from low-maintenance styles to elevated nail accessories.

Barely-There French

French manicures made a brief comeback last year, but they’ll be even more popular in 2023. “For 2023, French manicures will be barely there, very thin, and natural,” says Westmoreland of the updated classic. Consider fine, barely noticeable white tips that make hands and nails look chic and expensive. These fine lines are also used in reverse French, which is just as simple and effective.

Subtle Chrome

Chrome does not always imply bling. Harriet Westmoreland, global ambassador for OPI, predicts that chrome, but not as you know it, will be big in 2023, pointing to the shade’s mature evolution. Westmoreland will use chrome on top of opaque and sheer base colors to give nails a glossy, healthy appearance. Dazzling Disco, a chrome-topped opaque design by Townhouse, is a new take on the summer’s glazed doughnut nail trend, which was inspired by Hayley Bieber’s ultra-shiny manicure. For a glazed, glossy finish, try a milky shade topped with chrome.

Nail Jewelry and Metallics

In 2023, nail piercings and other jewelry-inspired materials will be popular. Longer nails will replace the shorter styles that dominated in 2022, making them ideal for piercing with dangling diamante add-ons to make a real statement. To keep the focus on the accessories, pair them with a clean, simple manicure. Practical? Not at all. Attention-grabbing? Absolutely.

Clean, Simple Nails

Following a period of intense grooming and maintenance in lockdown, the trend for healthy-looking hair emerged. Now, nails are following suit: in 2023, expect to see minimal manicures that showcase healthy, pristine nails that have been buffed to perfection everywhere you look. “Shades like OPI’s Bubble Bath and Love Is In The Bare are ideal for clean, simple nails,” manicurist Iram Shelton says. These colors conceal flaws while enhancing the nails for a clean, well-manicured, and healthy appearance. Finished with low-maintenance everyday nails.

Nail Accents

Textured accents will remain popular in 2023, with an emphasis on playful designs, from rhinestones to glitter to playing with matte and gloss topcoats. If nail art isn’t your thing, try a reverse French with a line of glitter hugging the cuticle or a simple crystal as a dot accent on each nail. These simple, subtle additions are an easy way to get into the trend.
