Renowned security analyst Adam Bonaa has called for the resignation or dismissal of the Attorney-General and the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO). Bonaa’s plea stems from increasing concerns about the effectiveness and integrity of these crucial institutions in combating corruption and organized crime.
Bonaa highlighted that both the Attorney-General’s office and EOCO are mired in allegations of corruption and misconduct. Such accusations, he asserted, erode public confidence in these bodies, which are essential for upholding the rule of law and fighting corruption.
He argued, “If someone accused of wrongdoing is prosecuting you, how would you feel? Would you believe you would be treated fairly and justly, given the recent controversies involving the Attorney-General? Is he competent enough to represent us?”
Bonaa called for the Attorney-General to step aside during a probe, suggesting that if he is exonerated, he can resume his duties. He linked his concerns to the money laundering investigation against former Minister for Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, pointing out contradictions between statements made by Attorney-General Godfred Dame and EOCO Director Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah.
“Such contradictions in a significant public matter undermine the justice delivery system. It would be prudent for both the Attorney-General and the EOCO boss to step aside. If they do not, the president should remove them,” Bonaa stated in an interview with Ghanaweb.
Bonaa’s critique underscores a significant lack of transparency and accountability in the operations of both offices. He believes that the resignation or dismissal of the current leaders would demonstrate a commitment to reform and renewal within these institutions, restoring public trust and confidence.
