Soccer star Neymar was inconsolable following Brazil’s humiliating defeat to Croatia on Friday, sobbing as his team was eliminated from the World Cup.
Neymar broke the scoreless stalemate in the 106th minute, and Bruno Petkovic of Croatia responded by scoring the equalizer in the 117th minute to make the game as exciting as it gets.
Everything came down to penalties, and Croatia won 4-2 when Marquinhos’ attempt hit the post and deflected out.
Neymar never had a chance to score in penalty kicks because he was supposed to be Brazil’s fifth player. Neymar was naturally upset after the defeat, sobbing on the ground as his teammates comforted him.
The 30-year-tournament old’s in Qatar have been up and down; he also shed tears as he waited on the sidelines against Serbia at the beginning of the competition because of an ankle ailment that required him to miss time. Prior to retiring on Friday, he did score two goals for Brazil.
Neymar hasn’t won a World Cup for his nation despite his overall enormous success at the competition throughout the years, but there’s still hope in 2026.
The winner of the contest between Argentina and the Netherlands will now face Croatia.
