President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to unveil the highly anticipated One Student, One Laptop initiative for Senior High School students on March 25.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Education, the initiative is aligned with the government’s push to boost e-learning and digitalization in education. It also supports the broader goal of preparing Ghanaian students for the digital age, also known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The initiative aims to strengthen Senior High School Education by providing Teaching and Learning Management Systems, Digital Learning Content, and educational devices to all Senior High and TVET Schools nationwide.
Last year, Vice President Dr. Mahanudu Bawumia revealed the government’s plan to equip each SHS student with a laptop. The upcoming launch of this initiative underscores the government’s unwavering dedication to improving secondary education, following its initiative to make education at that level free since 2017.
The laptops come preloaded with educational programs, including textbooks, and can be accessed offline anywhere in the country, eliminating the need for students to carry heavy textbooks.
This initiative is aimed at enhancing computer literacy and technological skills among young Ghanaian students. It represents a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to empower the youth with the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital world.
