Destoolment of Bekwai-Abodom Chief: Asantehene’s Firm Stand Against Misconduct.
Nana Saforo Koto, the Chief of Bekwai-Abodom, has been officially destooled by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, following a failure to address a range of charges. These allegations, brought forth by concerned community members, included the reckless sale of land to illegal miners, causing severe harm to water bodies. The decision was made after careful consideration of evidence and opinions from various divisional chiefs.
During the proceedings at an Asanteman Traditional Council meeting, Otumfuo Kyeame Kwaku Owusu, a significant representative of the Asantehene, stated that Nana Saforo Koto was unable to adequately defend himself against the 20 charges.

The destoolment comes as part of the Asantehene’s commitment to preserving the environment and safeguarding water bodies from the detrimental impacts of illegal mining. In line with this, other chiefs could also face destoolment if found guilty of involvement in illegal mining activities.
Earlier in June, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II destooled the Chief of Atwima, Nana Kofi Agyei Bi III, due to multiple land sale infractions. The Asantehene expressed his disappointment in the chief’s misuse of authority and lack of respect for community elders. The destoolment highlighted the consequences of allowing greed and disregard for proper land sale practices to tarnish one’s reputation and leadership role.
