According to Ugandan authorities, a dormitory at a school for visually impaired children in Mukono, east of the country’s capital, Kampala, caught fire. At least 11 people—including students—were murdered, and six more are in serious condition.

According to police, the injured are receiving care at Herona Hospital. The reason for the fire at Salama School for the Blind, which is thought to have started early on Tuesday morning, is being looked into.

In Uganda, school fires are frequent, and they occasionally begin when kids light candles in their dorm rooms after the lights go off. In many instances, the overcrowding in the school children’s sleeping spaces makes it difficult to control the fire.
