Atiku, Obi, and El-Rufai Pay Emotional Tribute at Buhari’s Home

On Wednesday morning, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar visited the family home of the late Muhammadu Buhari to offer his sympathies. He was joined by former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The three leaders arrived quietly, their visit marked by solemnity and respect. Peter Obi personally offered condolences to Buhari’s daughters, while Atiku and El-Rufai took a moment at the late president’s gravesite, saying prayers in his honor.

Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London after a private health struggle, was laid to rest the following day in his hometown, Daura.

Speaking with reporters after the burial, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda reflected on his personal bond with Buhari. He shared stories of their private conversations following Buhari’s exit from office in 2023.

“I was lucky to have spent time with him during his retirement in Daura,” Radda said. “He always had a way of making people laugh—even in serious conversations.”

Radda recalled one of Buhari’s key pieces of advice: “You can’t please everyone. Only God can do that. Just do your best and lead with honesty.”

The governor added that Buhari often spoke of the weight of leadership and the relief he felt after leaving public office. “He suffered a lot,” Radda said quietly, “but in his final days, he felt peace.”
